Kaneka Nutrients is dedicated to driving innovation and providing our supplement partners with a competitive advantage. Our commitment to evidence-backed ingredients, extensive research, and thorough testing ensures supplement brands can offer consumers the high-quality ubiquinol products they expect. With a longstanding focus on product integrity, we’ve built a reputation for consistent quality and scientific rigor.
To help you understand the Kaneka difference, let’s explore our innovations in CoQ10 science, clinical research contributions, collaborative support, and quality assurance processes.
A Legacy of Firsts in CoQ10 Science and Innovation
The parent company of Kaneka Nutrients, Kaneka Corporation, was founded in Japan in 1949 as a diversified international chemical manufacturing company with a focus on macromolecular and fermentation-based innovation. Since then, Kaneka has become a global leader in fermentation technology, starting with the production of baker’s yeast. Over time, this expertise has led to innovations in ribonucleic acid protein (RNP) and developments in single-cell protein (SCP).
CoQ10 is a naturally occurring molecule made in the body, and it powers mitochondrial synthesis of energy. It is a redox pair that exists in oxidized (ubiquinone) and reduced (ubiquinol) forms, playing a critical role in generating cellular energy and acting as a potent antioxidant in its reduced form.
Ubiquinol Chemical Structure

In 1977, Kaneka developed Kaneka Q10®, the first naturally derived, yeast-synthesized and purified coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Our proprietary yeast fermentation method yields the all-trans isomer CoQ10, which is structurally identical, or bioidentical, to the CoQ10 naturally produced in the human body.
Then, in 2007, we introduced the first stabilized ubiquinol product in the U.S., further cementing our leadership in CoQ10 science and innovation. As the active antioxidant form of CoQ10, Kaneka Ubiquinol® offers superior bioavailability compared to conventional CoQ10. Kaneka Ubiquinol® is shown to be absorbed twice as well as conventional CoQ10 and requires no conversion in the body to perform its antioxidant actions.1
The all-trans configuration is considered important for CoQ10’s biological function in the body. This key characteristic of Kaneka Q10® distinguishes it from other forms of CoQ10, especially those created through chemical synthesis, which may contain impurities.
The Trusted Expert in CoQ10 Science
Kaneka Nutrients is more than an ingredients supplier; we’re the leading authority on the ubiquinone and ubiquinol molecules.

With decades of research experience, we’ve contributed to hundreds of clinical and scientific studies that continue to shape CoQ10 science today. Our team draws on this deep well of expertise—including stability data, nutrient interaction insights, health benefits, and formulation know-how—to help partners develop thoughtful, differentiated products that align with consumer needs and regulatory expectations.
We take a careful, science-first approach to everything we do. All supporting research is reviewed by our legal, regulatory, and scientific teams to ensure it meets U.S. compliance standards.
As a founding member of the International Coenzyme Q10 Association (ICQA) and supporter of the Mitochondrial Research Society, our scientists collaborate regularly with leading researchers to explore emerging areas of study—from genetic and clinical research to new biomedical applications—furthering innovation across the category.
Supporting Our Partner Brands From Research to Business
We approach product development as a partnership, combining scientific expertise with a flexible, hands-on approach to help brands solve formulation challenges and explore new delivery systems. Whether you’re creating a new product or improving an existing one, our Research to Business (R2B) team collaborates closely with you to align ingredient choices, format options, and stability requirements with your objectives.
From early testing through finished formulations, we offer support across a range of delivery formats—including bulk softgels, cap-in-cap, sachets and stick packs, fast-dissolvable tablets, gummies, powders, bars, and functional foods. Our work is guided by a deep understanding of ingredient behavior, especially when stability is a concern.
Kaneka Q30®: Innovation in Action
An example of our innovation in action is Q30®, a 30% concentrated powder form of Kaneka Ubiquinol®. Because ubiquinol is highly sensitive to oxidation, our team collaborated with a leading pharmaceutical encapsulation company to develop a proprietary stabilization process based on fluid bed drying technology. The result is a stable, air-resistant powder that retains the functionality of Kaneka Ubiquinol® and expands its use across a range of applications—including solid foods, powdered beverages, and other dry formats—while preserving its key benefits.
Ensuring Ingredient Integrity from Research to Shelf

Great products start with quality ingredients—and we take quality seriously at Kaneka Nutrients. For decades, we’ve worked to ensure our CoQ10 and ubiquinol ingredients meet the highest standards for quality, purity, reliability, and safety.
Our ingredients are manufactured in the USA at our facility near Houston, Texas, which operates under strict quality and security controls. From yeast fermentation to final packaging, every stage is closely monitored and tested.
Kaneka Q10® and Kaneka Ubiquinol® are produced from non-GMO natural yeast strains and undergo a multi-step purification and screening process before leaving our facility. The result is a bioidentical form of CoQ10 that avoids the impurities often found in synthetic alternatives.
Bioidentical to the form produced in the body, Kaneka Ubiquinol® is:
- Kosher Certified
- Allergen free
- Non-GMO
- Compliant with USP monograph
- Self-affirmed GRAS
We continue monitoring even after ingredients are shipped—routinely purchasing and testing finished products from the market to ensure our ingredients continue to meet our quality expectations—even after they reach the shelf. We’ve also launched third-party testing on ubiquinol-labeled supplements sold online as part of our continued effort to raise transparency and ensure authenticity of products labeled as ubiquinol in the marketplace.
